Introduction and Arrival in Honduras

Welcome to the blog! I’ll do my best to share stuff that you might find interesting.  First, a little background info: I’m a student in the Master of Science in Global Health (MSc-GH) program at Duke University.  I’m also enrolled in medical school, but I try not to think about that….

Just kidding!  Actually, I’m very grateful to the University of Utah for granting me a leave-of-absence to pursue my interest in global health.  And I’m glad that the med school will welcome me back with open arms when I start Third Year in August – hurray!  Anyways, I’m in Honduras right now to complete a research project that will ultimately serve as the thesis for my Master’s degree.   I’ll share more details about the study in one of my next posts.

For now, just some basic facts: I’m staying in La Ceiba, which is the third-largest city in Honduras.  It is situated on the North Coast of the country, on the shores of the beautiful Caribbean Sea.  Of course, I’m staying in the part of town that is furthest from the sea, so I haven’t even seen it yet, but I am enjoying the lush tropical rain forest that surrounds my current home.  I have already experienced the joy of having a weird bug parachute out of a tree and land on my head – what could be better than that?

Here is a map of Honduras for you to consider:
