Watermelon Frenzy

NEVER have I ever had such sweet, delicious, mouth-watering watermelon. Even better, this watermelon was grown in a farm just 5 minutes from the Mama na Dada compound! Of course, we had to take advantage of this opportunity and bought 5 watermelons from the farm for just 100 Kshs ($1.25)! What a steal, especially because they are normally sold in large supermarkets for 100 Kshs per Kg and ours were about 8-10 Kgs!

Afterwards, we cut the watermelons into smaller pieces, put them in freezer bags, and chilled them in a refrigerator. I must say they are a great addition to any meal. In fact, we had them for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner today!!! This may sound crazy but you won’t know what you’re missing until you try freshly grown African watermelons.

Interestingly, watermelons are one of the fastest growing crops for farmers. You can plant watermelon seeds today and harvest in just 60 days. Plus, since Africa has warm weather all year round, watermelons can be planted anytime assuming that the nutrients in the soil have not been depleted and that the rains are on your side. We are really lucky it is harvest time right now and are certainly savoring the taste day by day!
